Q&A with Swift Strategies CEO Nathan Swift

How have you been able to increase headcount in a flat market?
Our growth has been organic expansion in existing clients (being asked to do more things!), word-of-mouth referrals and recommendations, and new client acquisition through relationships and proven delivery.
Which competitor or peer do you respect the most, and why?
There are so many! We are drawn to and respect companies that aren’t just good at what they do, but how they do it and the positive impact they have on their staff, clients and wider area. We respect consultancies that do things differently, that value people and have an enabling/empowering culture, who provide real value without creating dependency.
What’s a fact or quirk about your company most people won’t know about?
All of our team members have all had very non-linear career paths: from a professional musician and secondary-school teacher, to the founder of a Free School, to domestic abuse advocacy, to an on-the-beat police officer… to name a few!
Does the rise of AI and automation make it less likely you’ll continue to add headcount at the same rate in the coming years?
No – we have plans to grow because of new client requirements, work in new sectors and looking to move some of our workforce from temporary to permanent as part of our strategic plan. We expect to grow perm team by another 50% this year. The rise of AI gives us the opportunity to work with our clients on AI adoption and exploitation of the benefits it brings.
Name one thing you have planned for the next 12 months
Additional recruitment to grow the capacity, capability and depth of our existing team.
