What’s your snap reaction to yesterday’s announcement?

In today’s digital world, the government often faces criticism for its lack of focus and investment in technology, so this morning’s announcement is a welcome statement of intent that could deliver long-term benefits and boost confidence in the UK’s tech sector. Large-scale technological advances can be challenging for businesses to navigate without specifics, so this must come with a clear plan, guidance and action. 

As a partner which deals with the realities of delivering AI to business customers every day, what’s your one piece of advice for the new government regarding how it approaches AI growth and regulation?

The government has committed to a technology developing at an incredible pace and continuously changing.  A one-time statement won’t suffice over several years, so they must be prepared to maintain this new focus, move fast and show agility. As impressive as AI can be, there are also big challenges around accuracy, data protection and security, so it’s essential for the government to use forward-thinking regulation and legal frameworks to keep guardrails in place.
