What’s your snap reaction to yesterday’s announcement?

The Prime Minister’s announcement is undeniably bold, with the ambition to scale public sector compute by 20x standing out as both impressive and essential for global competition.

That said, the speech missed crucial areas like education and trust. Without prioritising AI literacy and workforce skills, the UK risks falling short of its long-term goals. Challenges such as reskilling, self-sovereign identity, and unlocking NHS datasets will take significant time to address.

The direction is commendable, but we need to move faster than ever to secure leadership in this space. Introducing additional tax breaks to encourage businesses to invest in and build AI applications would be a logical next step.

This is a promising start, but real success demands urgent action and greater focus on education, reskilling, and public trust to fully realise this ambition.

As a company which deals with the realities of delivering AI to business customers every day, what’s your one piece of advice for the new government regarding how it approaches AI growth and regulation?

Be agile. AI moves fast, and so must policy. Build trust through transparency and collaboration, and the UK can lead the way in turning ambition into global AI leadership.
