What’s your snap reaction to yesterday’s announcement?
At the risk of sounding downbeat, I would be surprised if there is a developed economy without similar AI aspirations, and we all know that the economic mood music has been challenging for Labour, so maybe this is an opportune political moment. That said, it is welcome and I am optimistic that the UK is incredibly well placed to lead in an era of AI.
As a partner which deals with the realities of delivering AI to business customers every day, what’s your one piece of advice for the new government regarding how it approaches AI growth and regulation?
If we want to lead, it starts with skills – attracting and developing a core skillset in the UK, making the UK the destination of AI skills, and infusing training through our education establishments. If I were in the Government’s shoes, if AI is the most exciting technology we have, then healthcare must be the most pressing use case. But they will need to foster trust, show a return and drive adoption. That means finding some quick wins, demonstrable success and building confidence that these statements go beyond political rhetoric and delivers real-world, tangible value.
