The Rigbys have stressed that they want SCC and the wider Rigby Group to remain a family business as it marks 50 years in business.
In a webcast for its 9,000 group employees around the world (see bottom), SCC Founder Sir Peter Rigby and his two sons, James and Steve, shared their vision for the next 50 years.
Despite recently voicing misgivings about how the October Budget will impact family businesses, Rigby Group Co-CEO Steve Rigby said it remains committed to the model.
“I think we want to remain a family business, and that’s really important to us,” he said.
“We want to have SCC as our cornerstone”
Founded in 1975, SCC turned over £3.4bn in its year to 31 March 2024. The wider Rigby Group – whose interests span not only technology but also airports, real estate and hotels – turned over £3.7bn in the same period.
Ranking 7th in the recent Oxygen 250, SCC is the largest business in Birmingham by revenue, and among the top ten largest in the West Midlands, Steve Rigby claimed.

“We want to have SCC as our cornerstone business moving forward as a family. It’s very hard to replicate this scale and quality of organisation that’s been built,” he said.
“We want to remain in technology.
“We will still have diverse investments, I’m sure.
“I think we’d like the third generation to be actively involved. That doesn’t necessarily mean running the business, but it means actively involved.”
James Rigby, who is also Rigby Group Co-CEO, said he is confident the business can “continue to prosper over the next 50-year timeframe”.
“We’re certainly in the right industries. Technology, for example, is becoming more not less important. So we’re in the right place,” he said.
In the webcast, Sir Peter Rigby also reflected on how much the industry has changed since 1975.
“I remember when I started selling mainframe computers, people used to say to me, ‘what’s a computer’. It sounds bizarre now,” he said.
