Q&A with CEO James Cripps
What was the trigger for you becoming an employee-owned business?
We were looking at our succession planning and we were keen to make this transition without damaging the culture within the business. We were also looking to recognise the contribution the wider team have made to where the business is today. Becoming EOT enabled us to achieve both these aims.
You’ve been an EOT for almost three years now. Has it had any impact on any of your KPIs, for instance staff retention?
We’ve always had really good staff retention, but becoming an EOT has definitely played a positive role in attracting new talent into the business. Recruitment in our sector has become increasing difficult, so you are always searching for something that makes the difference when it comes to securing the best talent.
The story of the transition to the EOT and how we represent this during the recruitment process has worked really well for us.
What’s the biggest upside of being an EOT?
It brings the team closer together to meet our collective goals, and helps to foster a culture where everyone feels valued and engaged with our purpose.
What message would you have for other MSPs or IT consultancies contemplating becoming an EOT?
I think an EOT works really well for the IT sector. As a services provider we are hugely dependent on our team to bring success to what we do. Becoming an employee-owned business means the employees all have a vested interest in the success of the business. This shines through when they interact with our customers, and this just takes the service we provide to a whole new level.
