UK IT distributors’ return to top-line growth is a “great sign”, Pimberly’s Tim Bodill has claimed as he gave his slant on IT Channel Oxygen’s Must-Know Distributors and Marketplaces 2025 report.
The 50 IT distributors and marketplaces featured in this year’s research notched up collective revenues of £15bn in their latest years on record, a 4% increase.
That follows a top-line decline recorded the previous year.
Must Know Distributors is Powered by Pimberly, a product information management start-up whose software is designed to boost distributors’ speed to market.
Talking to IT Channel Oxygen, Pimberly VP Bodill welcomed the upturn in distribution fortunes.
“The overall top-line numbers are back to growth again, which is great sign, but there was quite a contribution to that increase from the some of the smaller players,” he said.
“I think what that shows is that better technology in those smaller players is definitely making a big contribution.”
Despite the sales increase, the top 50’s collective headcount fell 2% to around 6,500, suggesting they are doing more with less.
“I remember the days of disties being absolutely rammed full of people in the product management team, managing the filter of information coming from vendors,” Bodill said.
“The more efficient you can become in acquiring that data and then presenting it to your customers, that gives you a competitive advantage, gets you to market quicker and reduces your costs, so I think that’s a trend we’ll see continue.”
