Canon is counting on an electric and hybrid fleet overhaul to halve its UK Scope 1 emissions.
Following a rollout completed this month, the print vendor claims 72% of its vehicle fleet will consist of electric vehicles, with the remaining 28% of its engineers driving hybrid vehicles.
It incentivised engineers to plump for the latter by offering them free home EV chargers.
Canon said transitioning from a predominantly diesel-powered fleet should enable it to reduce its Scope 1 operational emissions by around 50%.
Together with its new all electric and hybrid fleet, Canon claimed it is using technology to reduce the environmental impact of its servicing operation.
“Our move to an electric and hybrid fleet marks a major milestone in our mission to reduce the environmental impact of our operations,” stated Steve Cooper, Country Director Services & Support, Canon UK & Ireland.
“This ambition has been met with real excitement from engineers who have embraced the shift, with the majority opting for electric vehicles.”
