Jack Watson has stepped down as Bytes Software Services MD after five years in the role and 19 years at the software licensing powerhouse, IT Channel Oxygen can reveal.

Having joined Bytes Software Services as an Account Manager in 2006, Watson has now “moved on” from the business, Bytes Technology Group (BTG) CEO Sam Mudd confirmed in a statement to IT Channel Oxygen.

The decision was reached by “mutual agreement”, with BTG confirming it is not looking to replace him.

Leatherhead-based Bytes Software Services is the larger of LSE-listed BTG’s two brands, employing around 760 staff to Phoenix Software’s 477 at the end of its fiscal 2025.

York-based Phoenix Software continues to be led by Clare Metcalfe.

“I wish to share that Jack Watson has moved on from our business, and I want to thank him on behalf of the Board and the wider leadership team for his contribution to the BSS journey and all his hard work over nearly two decades,” Mudd stated.

“We are grateful for Jack’s dedication and leadership and on behalf of the Board and everyone in our Group we wish him all the best for the future. Please see his personal note to you all below.”

The news comes just two weeks after Bytes Software Services unveiled Candice Arnold as its new CMO.

BTG told us it has “no plans to replace the role as the team has depth of experience and will reorient reporting lines to reflect this”.

BTG’s fiscal 2025 gross sales hit £2.1bn. It said in October that it remains “confident” of hitting expectations for its fiscal 2026, despite acknowledging that a recent sales restructure – along with Microsoft incentive changes – dented its first-half numbers.

“This is the end of the beginning, and I am excited to learn and explore what comes next,” Watson told IT Channel Oxygen.
