13. Stone Group
Scope 1 and 2 emissions: 855 tCO2e (+27%)
Revenue: £146m
Emissions per £1m revenue: 5.9 tCO2e
Stone has “spearheaded the green revolution in the IT sector for many years, having been the only OEM and IT solution provider with its own on-site recycling facility since 2010”, it claimed in its latest SECR disclosure.
Stone’s reported Scope 1 and 2 emissions rose 27% to 856 tCO2e in calendar 2022, with reported Scope 3 emissions (which covered its grey fleet only) standing at 6 tCO2e.
Some 78% of its reported emissions in 2022 were from its fleet of vehicles, Stone said as it sought to explain why they had gone up (while stressing they are down on its 2019 base year).
“Despite the progress made in moving company cars to either full EV or hybrid models, significant progress towards achieving our 2030 target remains difficult whilst there are few if any low or no emission commercial vehicles currently available in the UK,” it stated in its most recent Carbon Reduction plan.
12. Focus Group
Scope 1 and 2 emissions: 991 tCO2e
Revenue: £156m
Emissions per £1m revenue: 6.3 tCO2e
Having struck up a partnership with Auditel in May 2022, this Shoreham-by-Sea-based outfit is aiming to be carbon neutral by the end of 2024.
Focus Group’s reported Scope 1 and 2 emissions both rose in its year to 30 November 2022 as the business comms and IT specialist increased property and vehicle use amid an expansion of its business. During the year, it launched an employee salary scheme to access electric vehicles.
The ESG component of Focus Group’s sale to Hg in April was “quite large”, Co-founder Ralph Gilbert told IT Channel Oxygen.
“We were asked a lot of questions [about ESG],” he said. “If we hadn’t had that in place it would probably have raised a few questions.”
11. Jigsaw24
Scope 1 and 2 emissions:
Location based: 64 tCO2e (-3%)
Market based: 12 tCO2e (-47%)
Revenue: £184m
Emissions per £1m revenue: 0.3 tCO2e (location based), 0.1 tCO2e (market based)
Having invested heavily in 2021 and 2022 in EV charging, EV salary sacrifice schemes and carbon neutral electricity, this Apple reseller “slowed down investment somewhat” in 2023, Founder Roger Whittle told IT Channel Oxygen in the Channel Race to Zero report.
Jigsaw24 pegged its Scope 1 emissions at 9.5 tCO2e in its year to 31 May 2023, with its reported location-based and market-based Scope 2 emissions standing at 54 and 2.4 tCO2e, respectively.
The Nottingham-based outfit reported emissions from eight Scope 3 categories during the year, which together equalled 1,526 tCO2e (the largest of which, ‘Purchased Goods & Services’ and ‘Employee commuting including Home Working’, stood at a respective 780 and 285 tCO2e).
