As the recent controversy over rising hyperscaler emissions demonstrates, sustainability continues to be a mainstream topic for the IT channel.

Since we launched a year ago, IT Channel Oxygen has covered every twist and turn of how the channel is decarbonising in the wake of growing pressure from regulators, customers, staff and investors.

But this year we noticed that the spotlight has begun to glare more intensely on one part of the sustainability conundrum, in the form of reuse and circular IT.

A growing number of channel partners, including Computacenter, have launched 1:1 device takeback goals, with more rumoured to be following suit.

Government and enterprise customers are increasingly asking for pre-used devices and hardware in RfPs as part of efforts to reach their ESG goals, meanwhile.

This has even become mandatory in some European countries, with a recent €30m second-user Irish laptop framework recently hailed as “the moment sustainable IT has been waiting for”.

Global e-waste volumes continue to rise, and vendors have been criticised for not moving quickly enough to incentivise the channel on circular IT.

Despite this, reuse and circular IT is fast becoming one of the hottest talking points for the channel.

That’s why IT Channel Oxygen is launching a dedicated content hub that will zone in on all the developments in this exciting area.

How are resellers and MSPs building profitable businesses around takeback and reselling second-user IT? What are the major OEMs doing to support more circular models in the channel? And how do analysts see demand for refurbished and remanufactured devices playing out?

Stay tuned on the Oxygen Second Life hub for a series of interviews with all the major players on this topic over the next two months.
