‘There’ll be some future Softcats and Computacenters in there’ – Giacom’s Marke on Fast-Growth 50

"MSPs are the only ones who can fix this problem," Giacom Chief Strategy Officer says of report into high-growth channel partners

The smaller, high-growth MSPs featured in Oxygen Fast-Growth 50 are the “engine room” behind SMB success and could hold the key to the UK’s recovery, Giacom’s Chief Strategy Officer has asserted.

Launched today, the report highlights some of the fastest-growing outfits from among the thousands of smaller channel partners that sit below Oxygen 250, and examines what makes them tick.

Nathan Marke, Chief Strategy Officer of Fast-Growth 50 partner sponsor Giacom, said the straitened economic background is “really hitting the SMBs that the MSP community serves” (see video, above, for full interview).

“There will be some should future CCs [Computacenters] and some future Softcats in [the report], but we’re much more focused on that shorter-term goal of how we get SMBs using technology better,” Marke said.

“And the only answer is small MSPs.”

“Technology remains one of the best levers of growth that we have in the UK, but unfortunately the vast majority of SMBs have a very poor experience with their technology,” Marke added.

“MSPs are the only people that can fix this problem. If a small business wants to get their technology working properly, they need to engage with an MSP.

“We need to really put a spotlight on that community, because they are the engine room that’s going to create this success and help SMBs get on with technology.”

As of 1 April, Marke will move from COO to Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) at cloud marketplace Giacom, which he said is aiming to hit £500m revenues this year.

“Our platform proposition, and the proposition with our people and all their skills, is really about trying to level the playing field for those smaller MSPs,” he said.

“It delights me”

Drawing on Companies House data on over 500 firms, Fast-Growth 50 highlights the 50 fastest-growing smaller MSPs, MSSPs and IT solutions providers on IT Channel Oxygen’s radar.

The report features a reseller with a four-day week, a Guildford-based IT consultancy whose motto is “take me to the cauliflower”, and a Bristol-based IT support provider which counts a contender on the current series of the BBC’s The Apprentice among its employees.

Having only been founded in 2021, the report’s number-one outfit now employs over 40 staff and is aiming to provide a “more agile” alternative to the likes of Computacenter, Softcat and Capita.

“I’ve been involved with start-ups and small businesses in the past, and reading some of the interviews you’ve done really tickles me,” Marke said.

“It delights me, because I remember what it’s like. I remember the energy and the enthusiasm and the excitement, and the fact that there are infinite possibilities when you’re running a business like that.

“The SMB community needs those micro MSP. It’s so important – it’s the engine room that fundamentally underpins the productivity of the UK and the success of the nation as a whole. That’s why we’re behind the Fast-Growth 50.”
