9. Sundown

Size: 40-45 staff
Acquirer: Ancoris
When: April
Rationale
April saw two leading pure-play UK Google and Microsoft partners come together to form an enlarged business with 110-120 staff.
Andre Azevedo, CEO of Google house Ancoris, said its acquisition of Azure specialist Sundown was “what customers are asking for”. It simultaneously rebranded as ‘Telana’.
“Customers see that we’re very good at solving problems, but they also say, ‘you’re Google only, and therefore you’re biased towards a specific type of technology’,” Azevedo, who is now CEO of the enlarged, Beech Tree Private Equity-backed outfit, told IT Channel Oxygen at the time.
What they said
“Sometimes being a single-threaded partner has precluded us from being a trusted advisor to our customers,” – Andre Azevedo, CEO, Telana
Noteworthy nugget
The word ‘Telana’ is a variation of a Zulu word for a shelf in the middle of the village where treasures are kept, Azevedo revealed.
