6. “Rather than creating our own talent, we want to create a bed of talent that can then go into the industry.”
Who said it? Chloe Thirlwall, Head of People Success at Distology
Thirwall was talking to IT Channel Oxygen in July following the launch of the VAD’s apprenticeship scheme.
Why was it significant?
The IT channel is struggling to attract fresh blood, with vendors, distributors and resellers often finding it easier to recruit from each other than from outside.
But Distology is among the distributors that have stepped up in 2024 by launching schemes designed to find and train new talent for the good of the wider industry (Titan Data Solutions also launched a graduate programme this year).
The Stockport-based VAD may very well not being saying “you’re hired” to its apprentices at the end of the term of their contract, Thirwall said.
“A lot of people take on apprentices to have them in their own business – we’re not necessarily doing that,” she said.
What happened next?
Distology has already taken on its first batch of apprentices.
