One of the UK’s largest software licensing houses says it’s “hiring across all roles” after its headcount burst through the 500 barrier.

York-based Phoenix Software today announced it has welcomed in its 500th employee in the shape of Physical Security Business Development Manager Jamie Baron.

Part of Bytes Technology Group, Phoenix Software was founded in 1990.

By 2000 its headcount had risen to 100, with the 200 barrier breached in 2020.

Phoenix said its hiring push will focus particularly on technical expertise and subject matter specialists in digital transformation, AI and cybersecurity as it strives to maintain double-digit growth and break £1bn turnover.

It claims that over 40% of its staff work in technical roles.

Phoenix MD Clare Metcalfe characterised the hire as a “major milestone in our company’s history”.

“I’ll admit, I felt a bit nervous when I learned I was considered a ‘milestone employee’ at Phoenix,” Baron said in a statement.

“It’s clear I have big shoes to fill, with such an impressive team already setting a high standard. That said, I’m excited for the journey ahead, and with a bit of luck, I look forward to one day welcoming our 1000th team member and helping them thrive and achieve their goals within the company.”
