A Cambium Networks peer has taken on 135 of the fallen wireless networking vendor’s staff as part of a transaction to buy several of its products.
Airspan today announced it has acquired “several fixed wireless product lines” from Cambium Networks Ltd.
The wireless networking vendor’s UK arm went into administration last Monday, with the wider, US-based company announcing on the same day that it has more than halved its global workforce.
Cambium Networks Ltd last Tuesday told partners it would discontinue production of Wi-Fi access points, NSE devices and cnMatrix switches, as it acknowledged the “shock” its sudden collapse had caused.
But the vendor also said at the time that it was “actively progressing a number of potential going concerns transactions”.
Airspan has acquired:
– point-to-multipoint access with the PMP 450 platform
– unlicensed point-to-point backhaul with PTP 670
– point-to-point systems for defense applications with PTP 700
– millimeter wave point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connectivity with cnWave
– narrowband communications for industrial environments with cnReach
The management system and planning software for the acquired portfolio, including LINKPlanner, cnHeat, and cnMaestro, are included in the transaction, Airspan stressed.
“Cambium’s point-to-point and point-to-multipoint products are a compelling addition to Airspan’s 4G and 5G wireless network solutions for service providers, defense, and critical communications,“ stated Airspan CEO Glenn Laxdal.
“We are fully committed to supporting the customers and partners who have invested in these products.”
Motorola spin off Cambium owes its substantial presence in Ashburton, Devon to Motorola’s 2006 acquisition of British wireless device maker Orthogon Systems.
Airspan said 135 Cambium employees have joined its ranks as part of the transaction.
This includes sales and support resources in the US, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Africa, as well as R&D teams in the US, UK and India, it stressed.
