Cambium Networks Ltd has said it will discontinue production of Wi-Fi access points, NSE devices and cnMatrix switches, as it acknowledged the “shock” its sudden collapse had caused.

The wireless networking vendor’s UK arm went into administration on Monday, with the wider, US-based company announcing on the same day that it has more than halved its global workforce.

In a note published in its secure portal that was sent out yesterday afternoon and has been shared with IT Channel Oxygen, the wireless networking vendor said it is “actively progressing a number of potential going concerns transactions”.

“The intention is that cnMaestro Cloud will continue to operate at least through 1 October,” it read.

“At this point, it is anticipated that the fixed wireless broadband business will largely resume after a relatively short pause. Production has been discontinued of Wi-Fi access points, NSE devices, and cnMatrix™ switches.”

One partner source we spoke to, who wished to remain anonymous, said they were “deeply concerned” about the news.

“It doesn’t look good for the industry that a company of this size could go bust like this,” he said.

“I’m deeply concerned about the ecosystem – Cambium is in a lot of places.”

Cambium Networks span off from Motorola in 2011 and owes its substantial UK presence in Ashburton to Motorola’s 2006 acquisition of Orthogon Systems.

It specialises in wireless telecommunications equipment, including fixed wireless broadband solutions, enterprise-class Wi-Fi, switches, and security solutions, and defence network radios.

In the note, Cambium Networks Ltd characterised itself as the “main trading entity” of the Cambium Group.

The group “faced challenging trading conditions due to material supply chain disruption and increased costs over recent years, which triggered cash flow pressure”, according to the note.

“Cambium Networks understands this news comes as a shock to its customers and partners, each with deep concerns about their networks and businesses,” it stated.

“Additional communications are being prepared to address those concerns, particularly with regard to ongoing cnMaestro availability.”

RSM UK Restructuring Advisory LLP, which is handling the administration, declined to comment.
