‘We’re myopically focused on our European growth’ – Intragen CEO on latest acquisition

"To scale and compete this was an absolute requirement," Alex Fagioli tells IT Channel Oxygen

Intragen is “intensely focused on its European growth”, its CEO has declared as the identity and access management (IAM) consultancy made its second acquisition inside 12 months.

London-based Intragen has snapped up AspisID, a Netherlands-based peer with an extensive operation in Athens.

The move bolsters FPE Capital-backed outfit’s headcount to around 175, and follows on from its purchase of Telia Finland’s IAM business unit last July.

Talking to IT Channel Oxygen, Intragen CEO Alex Fagioli said AspisID will enable his firm to bring in a constant flow of “highly skilled, talented and intelligent people” into the business.

“Intragen is completely focused on the IAM space and on scaling our managed services. The biggest hindrance to that is how we can scale our people effectively, and AspisID have built an incredible academy that started in 2017, and are now well over 60 people,” he said.

“To scale and compete, this was an absolute requirement”

Ranking fourth in IT Channel Oxygen’s recent Fast-Growth 50, Intragen marks itself out from rival IAM consultancies by being resourced entirely from within the UK and EU.

“[Greece] wouldn’t necessarily be the first place you would think of, but a set of circumstances have allowed Aspis to build their business out there. Clearly they’ve got very intelligent people, great universities, and are highly educated. So there’s an opportunity for us to be at the forefront of that and expand that further,” he said.

“If you look at our competitors, they all have some form of this function so in order for us to scale and compete it was an absolute requirement that we do something similar. We had a choice of building it ourselves or acquiring it, and we took the latter out of expediency,” he said.

The duo had tested the model by partnering with each other over the last 6-9 months, Fagioli stressed.

“We are intensely focused on our European growth and want to be known as the place where the best IAM experts can do the best work,” he concluded.
