Softcat has been pipped to the post in a league table of healthcare IT suppliers that also features Insight, CDW, Bytes and CAE Technology Services.
The Access Group emerged as the number one tech supplier to public healthcare bodies in England in 2022/23 according to the research, which was conducted by government purchasing information provider tussell.
According to tussell, it represents one of the fast-growing markets in the UK public sector, with spending more than doubling over the last four years to reach £4.8bn.
The Access Group racked up £391m of sales in the sector in 2022/23, ahead of Softcat and Insight on £298m and £274m, respectively.
The top ten largest suppliers occupied almost half of the sector.
Bytes, Trustmarque and CDW also made the top 10, with CAE Technology Services and SCC among those just outside it.
NHS trusts were responsible for 60% of healthtech procurement in the latest year, although tussle urged suppliers “don’t ignore” ICBs [integrated care boards] as their tech budgets “appear to be growing year on year”.
Some three-quarters of healthtech total contract value stemmed from frameworks, with Technology Products & Associated Services (TePAS) the top dog here (boasting £1bn of spend).
“There’s never been a better time to expand into the healthtech market,” tussell declared.
