Anthropic is opening a new 800-seat London office in an effort to match the demand it claims to be seeing among European businesses.
The AI vendor – which only last month announced a $100m investment into its Claude Partner Network – hit the headlines last week when it unveiled its controversial Claude Mythos Preview.
Employing more than 200 people, including 60 AI researchers, its London operation is already one of its “most significant hubs” outside the US.
The new 158,000 square foot office in the Knowledge Quarter at Regent’s Place has room for around 800 people.
Anthropic caused alarm last week when it unveiled Mythos Preview, which it claimed is “capable of identifying and then exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities in every major operating system and every major web browser”.
UK MSSPs we spoke to played down the threat it poses, with some saying the advent of cybersecurity-focused AI models like it could favour defenders as much as it does attackers, however.
“We’re scaling to match”
Anthropic stressed the UK investment will “deepen” its “close relationship” with the UK’s AI safety infrastructure.
Claude counts hedge fund giant Man Group among its UK clients and is currently involved in the pilot of a dedicated assistant by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.
“Europe’s largest businesses and fastest-growing startups are choosing Claude, and we’re scaling to match,” Pip White, Head of EMEA North at Anthropic, stated.
“London is already one of our most important research and commercial hubs outside the US, and our expansion in the Knowledge Quarter gives us the room to grow into.
“The UK combines ambitious enterprises and institutions that understand what’s at stake with AI safety with an exceptional pool of AI talent – we want to be where all of that comes together.”
Anthropic last month committed to spending $100m this year to support partners who are helping enterprises adopt Claude, characterising them as “trusted guides in what can feel like unchartered territory”.
A “significant proportion’ of that will go on training and sales enablement and market development and co-marketing.
Anthropic also claims it is scaling its partner-facing team five-fold.
Accenture is training 30,000 of its team on Claude “because that’s what it takes to meet the demand we are seeing”, Alex Holt, Vice Chair, Global Head Anthropic Business Group at the IT consultancy giant said at the time of the partner investment announcement.
