Google Cloud has unveiled former high-flying Microsoft exec Maureen Costello as its new UK&I boss.
Most recently holding the role of Corporate Vice President for Industry Solutions Delivery at Google’s cloudy rival, Costello starts in the role of VP UKI and Sub-Saharan Africa this month.
Google Cloud confirmed its previous MD for UK&I, Helen Kelisky, has left to “pursue an opportunity external to Google Cloud”.
Tara Brady, President, EMEA, Google Cloud, hailed Costello – who served a 25-year stint at Accenture before joining Microsoft in 2020 – as a “proven leader”.
“Pivotal time” for Google Cloud
According to Canalys, Google Cloud pocketed a 10% share of a global cloud infrastructure market worth $82bn in Q3, putting it third behind Microsoft Azure (12%) and AWS (33%).
It is grew at a faster rate than its two fluffy foes (36% YoY growth for Google Cloud vs 33% for Microsoft Azure and 19% for AWS), however.
Costello’s arrival comes after Google Cloud bagged some key UK customers, including BT, John Lewis, Vodafone and WPP, the vendor said.
“It’s an honour to join Google Cloud at such a pivotal time in its journey,” Costello said.
“[Costello’s] deep industry expertise and understanding of the unique needs of customers will be invaluable as we continue to expand Google Cloud’s presence in these key markets. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Google Cloud EMEA leadership team,” Brady added.
In a separate statement sent to IT Channel Oxygen, a Google Cloud spokesperson said:
“We can confirm that Helen Kelisky stepped down from her role as Managing Director, UKI, Google Cloud to pursue an opportunity external to Google Cloud. We wish Helen well in her future endeavours.”
