Has the IT industry reached peak greenwash? 7 sustainability leaders weigh in

‘Offsetting should be used in addition to all the other investments and initiatives‘

Clare Parry Jones, Computacenter

Clare Parry-Jones, Sales Enablement Director, Western Europe & Sustainability Champion at Computacenter

To what extent does the tech sector have an issue with greenwashing?

Greenwashing is prevalent in all industries globally. I genuinely don’t feel they are worse in the UK tech market than they are in other sectors. As a sector we always endeavour to put our customers’ needs first and that can result in some rushing to market a little early with their achievements and approaches in this area.

Sustainability and achieving the changes needed isn’t a sprint or for the faint of heart.

How should vendors and partners approach the increasingly thorny issue of offsetting, either when it comes to decarbonising their own businesses, or tools they have designed or are selling to help customers do the same?

Offsetting has a place in most organisations’ net zero strategies. It should be used in addition to all the other investments and initiatives in this area to support achieving goals.

“The solution is decarbonisation, not offsets“ – Find out Jigsaw24 CEO Roger Whittle’s views on next page…
