Mesh CEO’s price pledge to MSPs as it sells up to Bitdefender

“I know for MSPs announcements like this often come with a sinking feeling," Brian Byrne says

Mesh’s CEO has moved to combat potential unease among MSPs over its sale, as he acknowledged that “announcements like this often come with a sinking feeling”.

The Irish email security start-up today announced it has been acquired by Bitdefender for an undisclosed sum.

Bitdefender said it will integrate Mesh’s email security technology and capabilities into its XDR platform and MDR services.

But Mesh CEO and co-founder Brian Byrne moved quickly to assuage any potential angst among MSP partners by making four pledges around pricing, product development and staff.

Pricing will stay the same for at least 24 months for current Mesh MSP partners, he promised, adding that “the platform will keep improving”.

The entire Mesh team is staying on, including leadership, and it is “hiring immediately to support our next stage of growth”, Byrne added, meanwhile.

“I know for MSPs announcements like this often come with a sinking feeling. Your favourite vendor gets acquired, and suddenly it’s price hikes, team changes, or the product slowly fading away,” he said in a LinkedIn post.

“That’s not the case here.”

Email under attack

Founded in 2020, Dublin-headquartered Mesh claims to be the only email security platform built exclusively for MSPs.

Email remains the most exploited attack vector and serves as an entry point for ransomware, phishing, and business email compromise, Bitdefender said as it sought to contextualise the acquisition.

It claimed Mesh’s centralised platform for MSPs, which is designed to enable multi-tenant email security management, will boost its offering for its 41,000 channel and MSP partners.

“We are pleased to announce our intent to acquire Mesh, a strategic move that will complement our GravityZone XDR platform and power our MDR service to help businesses combat email-borne threats as they continue to evolve,” stated Andrei Florescu, president and general manager of Bitdefender Business Solutions Group.

“Mesh brings leading-edge innovation from a deeply experienced team that shares our commitment to effective, real-world security. Together, we will further strengthen our ability to provide proven and trusted email protection to our global customer base.”

Byrne added: “When it came to finding the right home for our MSP partners, their customers, our team, and the platform itself, Bitdefender ticked every box.”
