4. SCC dynasty gets bold as it turns 50

Steve Rigby, Co-CEO, Rigby Group

When? All year

SCC parent Rigby Group has made some pretty bold moves this year as its flagship business celebrates 50 years in business.

Founded in 1975 by Sir Peter Rigby, SCC turned over £3.4bn in its year to 31 March 2024. The wider Rigby Group – whose interests span not only technology but also airports, real estate and hotels – generated revenues of £3.7bn in the same period.

Rigby Group wants SCC to be its “cornerstone business moving forward as a family”, Co-CEO Steve Rigby said in February (perhaps trailing this month’s £200m-plus sale of its airports business).

SCC also announced its decision to divest two datacentres to Pulsant in March.

Despite recently voicing misgivings about how the October Budget will impact family businesses, Rigby Group Co-CEO Steve Rigby said it remains committed to the model.

“I think we want to remain a family business, and that’s really important to us,” he said.

“I think we’d like the third generation to be actively involved. That doesn’t necessarily mean running the business, but it means actively involved.”
