Resellers are seizing a growing chunk of public sector tech spending, a market intelligence firm asserted as it unveiled its latest spend rankings.
Tussell’s Tech Titans report (download here) ranks the 150 highest-earning technology suppliers to the UK public sector by direct public sector revenue in FY24/25.
Some 19 of these 150 firms are IT resellers, up from 16 a year earlier, Tussell’s companion Reseller Titans report (download here) reveals.
Spending with these 19 resellers hit £4.8bn in 2024/25 – more than double the equivalent tally in 2019/20 (and a 61% increase in real terms).
Resellers are winning more revenue across a broader range of technologies, beyond their traditional stronghold in Microsoft enterprise, Tussell said.
“Top resellers are growing faster than the wider Tech Titan market,” it stated.
“Resellers are benefiting from a structural shift in public sector tech buying: away from bespoke, direct relationships and towards more standardised cloud, software and end user technology bought through intermediaries.”
Over the last five years, Cloud has overtaken Microsoft Enterprise contracts as the biggest revenue source for top resellers, Tussell noted.
Cloud spend with top resellers totalled £925m in the latest period, compared with £703m for Microsoft Enterprise, £611m for Other Software Licensing, £451m for End User Devices, £267m for On Premises Infrastructure and £428m for ‘Other’.
The resellers tracked generated £1.8bn of their £4.8bn public sector business from the TePAS framework, Tussell said.
Its findings are based on invoices published by public sector bodies and contract award data from the likes of Find a Tender Service.
The top ten public sector resellers have “changed little” since FY19/20, Tussell said, noting that there is only one new entrant.
Those who narrowly missed out include Advania, Bechtle, European Electronique, Probrand and TET.
The top-ranked ranked Reseller Titan was also the top Tech Titan overall.
