“Clients are starting to become interested”

There’s been growing scrutiny over the dependency of UK business on US tech infrastructure. Is this something your clients are talking about, and do you expect any to change course in light of recent events?
It is something that clients are starting to become interested in. We have seen some focus from businesses in the financial services and CNI sectors who are typically more risk-averse.
I expect this to become a growing area of interest and it’s clear the dominant cloud players in the market are concerned about what this could do to their businesses, as evidenced by AWS’ recent launch of their EU sovereign cloud (which has incidentally raised many questions since it’s still technically under US control!)
What’s your advice as an independent trusted advisor?
Not to panic yet. So much of the global stock market is dominated by the major cloud players, and any government interference in that would cause catastrophic worldwide financial consequences.
But businesses should consider how they can mitigate this risk in solutions architecture, particularly if they are in CNI sectors. For example if you have data in M365, Azure or AWS, why not consider a UK-sovereign cloud backup solution?
If you remember in late 2025 when there was an AWS outage in the US, HMRC and Lloyds Bank both stopped working, which highlights the (perhaps unintended!) dependency on US tech.
