From ghosted partners to portals of doom, channel partnerships can often veer into spooky territory.

As it’s Halloween, here are five haunting partnership nightmares I encounter most regularly in my capacity as a marketing pro.

Be afraid; be very afraid….

1: The Descent into Misalignment

Picture this: Two partners, each with the best intentions, setting off to achieve great things together. But somewhere along the way, their goals begin to drift apart. The once-shared vision starts to fragment, and before long, each is focused on different priorities, pulling in opposite directions. The collaboration, instead of thriving, feels like navigating a dark maze with no clear path forward.

Sound familiar? Misaligned goals can turn any promising partnership into a journey fraught with frustration.

2: The Silence of the Partner

Now imagine the eerie quiet that falls when one vendor suddenly withdraws. Calls go unanswered, meetings are missed, and what was once an active collaboration turns into a one-sided endeavour. Without their voice, the joint presence in the market starts to fade, and the silence becomes a haunting echo of missed opportunities.

Have you ever felt the dread of a silent vendor? In partnerships, silence is rarely golden—it’s often the beginning of a ghost story.

3: The Frankenstein Proposition

Determined to press on, the partners assemble their ideas for a joint value proposition. But instead of a cohesive message, the result is a patchwork creation—clunky, disjointed, and difficult to understand. Each element might make sense on its own, but together they create a monstrous, confusing message that drives the audience away rather than drawing them in.

If you’ve ever watched a great idea turn into a Frankenstein of mixed messaging, you know how quickly a joint value proposition can become a monster.

4: The Portal of No Return

To bring everything together, the partners build a portal—a place for resources, updates, and opportunities. But as soon as it’s launched, the trouble begins. The portal is difficult to navigate, confusing, and soon becomes a place partners avoid rather than visit. Engagement dwindles, and instead of a hub of growth, it becomes a cavern of lost opportunities.

Has your partner portal ever turned into a labyrinth? If partners can’t easily navigate it, they might not return.

5: The Curse of Unread Messages

As a final attempt to stay connected, the partners decide to send out regular newsletters and updates. But their messages go unopened, stuck in an inbox purgatory. Communication dwindles as engagement falls into limbo, leaving the partnership on shaky ground and threatening to disconnect it entirely.

When your updates are ignored, it can feel like a curse—a curse of missed connections and messages left unread.

Conclusion: Do These Tales Sound Familiar?

If you’ve experienced any of these partnership horrors, you’re not alone. Many teams have navigated the maze of misaligned goals, silent partners, or clunky propositions. This Halloween, let’s remember that these challenges, while daunting, can be overcome. Stay vigilant, keep your partnerships engaged, and ensure your joint ventures don’t become the next chapter in the haunted tales of partnership horror.
