14 most significant cyber-attacks of 2025 so far – with a twist…
Share on LinkedinShare on Twitter

In a year in which cyber-attacks have moved into the national glare, what have been the most potent and memorable incidents?

Who better to ask than a dozen leaders of MSSPs, consultancies and IT partners working on the front line of cybersecurity day in day out?

Whether it be the empty shelves and eyewatering losses at Marks & Spencer, or the tragic news last week of a patient death linked to an NHS attack, cybersecurity is now never far from the headlines.

At a government level, all eyes are now on cyber – cyber spending is a key component of new NATO plans to raise defence spending to 5% of GDP, while Australia this month introduced mandatory reporting of ransomware payments.

But what are the most signficant cyber-attacks of 2025 so far, and what implications does each have for how channel partners position their services?

Panel

To answer this, IT Channel Oxygen opened the floor to a dozen leaders of top UK MSSPs, cybersecurity consultancies and IT providers, namely Bridewell, Chorus, Computacenter, Cybaverse, Cyberfort, CyXcel, NGS, Quorum Cyber, Performanta, Red Helix, Sapphire and Secon (all leaders pictured above).

We asked each to highlight the five cyber-attacks or incidents that have most caught their eye this year, in rank order*.

Their picks include attacks on three big retailers, two cryptocurrency firms and one government agency.

Which made their top 14? Read on to find out….

*Some nominated more or fewer that five, while a few opted not to rank order them. We have endeavoured to produce a ranking that fairly reflects these nuances.
