‘A natural bolt-on’ – Brigantia MD on Zen Software acquisition

Brigantia’s acquisition of Zen Software is a “natural bolt-on”, its MD said as he stressed its German owner is on the hunt for further complementary purchases.

Brigantia – or ‘Brigantia by Elovade’ as it currently styles itself – this afternoon announced it has acquired Rochdale-based MDaemon and Mailstore distributor Zen.

The move comes 11 months after Brigantia itself sold up to Germany-headquartered software VAD Elovade.

Talking to IT Channel Oxygen, Shaw said Zen Software was known to Elovade CEO Philip Weber thanks to their mutual partnership with Mailstore.

“[Zen Software] founder Ross [McWilliam] is at a point where he’s ready to retire, but the guys who work for him have deep expertise in complementary areas to us – they’re not as security-focused as the Brigantia team,” Shaw said.

“This is a natural bolt-on.

“Elovade is on a mission to really scale across Europe in the territories we’re currently in – we’re always looking for bolt-on acquisitions to supplement the substantial bases we now have in the UK, Italy, DACH and the Nordics.”

Ranking 36th in Oxygen Must-Know Distributors and Marketplaces 2025, Thirsk-based Brigantia claims its runrate revenues now stand at £23.5m. It counts Heimdal, KnowBe4, CyberSmart, Keeper, Hornetsecurity, Redstor and Sendmarc among its key vendors.

The wider Elovade Group is on course to hit €150m revenues this year, Shaw said.

Both Brigantia and Zen Software will fully rebrand under the Elovade banner “later this year”, Shaw emphasised.

“Anyone else they get wind of that’s selling, they will be interested in having a look, for sure,” Shaw said of the parent brand.

“I’m extremely proud of the business we’ve built over the last 30 years, and I’m confident that Brigantia and the wider Elovade Group are the perfect choice for this significant next step in our journey,” McWilliam added in a canned statement.
