An MSP with two former rugby internationals on its payroll has set its sights on becoming one of the “leading managed services and technology partners nationally” following a leadership shake up.

Gloucestershire-based Emerge Digital reported a 40% increase in turnover to £4.5m over the last 12 months.

Its new-look top team includes Chief Revenue Officer Mark Atkinson, a former Sale Sharks and London Wasps centre who joined the business in 2024.

Emerge Digital also recently enlisted former Wales international Alex Cuthbert to spearhead its expansion into South Wales.

Tom Henson switches from MD to COO, while Nigel Church remains as CEO, with Mel Cheesman and Phil Waters joining as Chief Experience Officer and fractional CFO, respectively.

The latter previously served as MD of Croft MSP.

The IT channel is a popular hunting ground for former rugby pros, with IT lifecycle services firm N2S headed up by former England scrum-half Andy Gomarsall. MSP Aura Technology in 2019 appointed former England rugby coach and World Cup winner Sir Clive Woodward as a non-exec director, meanwhile.

“I truly believe”

Emerge Digital claims it has over the last two years established itself as one of Gloucestershire’s “leading AI implementation partners for small and midmarket businesses”.

Clients in South Wales already include national brewery SA Brains.

Emerge Digital’s headcount now stands at 24, while the number of supported users has increased by 30% over the same period, it claims.

It bagged B Corp status in February, putting it among a group of 30 or so UK MSPs to hold the notoriously exacting social and environmental sustainability badge.

“When I look at our executive team, where they’ve come from and what their capabilities are, I truly believe it’s a team capable of delivering on our ambitions of becoming one of the leading managed services and technology partners nationally,” Church said in a statement.
