“I couldn’t turn it down” – Andy Wright on SCC return

"It does feel like coming home", Wright tells IT Channel Oxygen

Andy Wright has told IT Channel Oxygen he feels like he’s “coming home” after returning to SCC as its Commercial Director.

Having spent a brief spell out of the industry after exiting XMA last year, Wright took on a short assignment with CDW from March to June.

Now he has returned to the company where he spent the lion’s share of his career, in a Commercial Director role recently vacated by Phil Brown (who is heading to TD Synnex).

“I’m coming home”

Talking to IT Channel Oxygen, Wright said the brief and people he will be working alongside are both “pretty similar” to his last stint at SCC between 1999 and 2017.

“It does feel like coming home,” he said.

“I know all of my direct reports from when I was at SCC before, including some I recruited.

“It’s not quite the same role and it’s not quite the same organisation, as seven years is a long time. But at the root of it it’s the same organisation.

“It’s a large privately owned reseller. That’s a culture that suits me down to the ground as I like being able to interact with the shareholders.”

Although SCC Co-CEO Steve Rigby recently acknowledged that SCC’s fiscal 2024 had been a “more difficult year” for the Birmingham-based IT group, Wright said he is already witnessing some “green shoots”.

“By the way, I don’t think it was only SCC who had a difficult 2023. I think you’ll find other people who have not revealed their results who did not find it easy,” he said.

“But I think there’s a lot of reason for optimism. I think you’re going to see some technology refresh happening now it’s four years on from Covid, when people bought client devices like they were going out of fashion.”

Wright’s return is one of two senior appointments announced by SCC, with Amy Simpson promoted to Revenue Operations Director to lead the firm’s RevOps team.

Adam Clark, Chief Revenue Officer at SCC, stated: “I’m thrilled to welcome Andy back into SCC. Andy brings with him a wealth of experience gained at SCC and other major IT companies. Andy knows SCC well having spent almost two decades with the company previously, responsible for achieving significant commercial growth and strengthening SCC’s position as one of the UK’s most successful solutions providers. I look forward to working with Andy again to maximise our position and lead new initiatives and opportunities.

“We also welcome Amy into her new role as Revenue Operations Director. During her time with SCC, Amy has been a driving force behind improving growth opportunities and sales enablement, using data-driven insights to guide strategic decision making. Amy will continue to support the sales team and collaborate with colleagues across SCC to achieve continued and sustainable growth.”
