Return to office is happening, and candidates must compromise

Channel job seekers must face up to the new reality, recruitment ace Zoe Chatley argues

Let’s talk office, hybrid and remote working….

…it’s a subject that is always coming up.

Here is the reality: more and more companies are pushing for people to be back in the office, especially sales, commercial and operational departments.

I agree! We agree.

Whilst covid allowed us all to see we were capable of working from home and could be very productive, the market is changing…. again, and has been for a while now.

As recruiters we agree with getting sales, ops and commercial teams back in. Especially those who are more junior in their careers. They need to learn from those around them and you cannot do that at home – not thoroughly and effectively.

Collaboration is also key. If you truly want to progress your careers, learn and evolve you need to do that from the peers around you. This will also allow you to build confidence and those key business social skills you need.

Equally, if you are changing industries, you cannot learn a new market adequately from home.

I think the market needs to be more open and flexible now. When considering your next job move, you may now have to show flex to work in the office more in order to secure your next move.

Not everyone will agree, but it’s a fact I think we all need to be open to now.
