“We should tax the economic activity they enable”

AI agents should not be taxed simply because they are AI. Instead, we should tax the economic activity they enable. We didn’t create an “manufacturing robot tax” when they were introduced in the car industry.
We should encourage innovation, because AI has the potential to boost productivity, improve healthcare, accelerate scientific discovery, and create new industries. But the benefits of that growth should be shared broadly, not concentrated in the hands of a few firms.
