GenAI move: Acquired stake in Planet AI

What happened?

Mainland Europe’s largest VAR grabbed a 51% stake in German AI company Planet AI in October. It works in the fields of deep learning and creating solutions for intelligent document analysis and process automation.

Planet AI’s core product is designed to enable companies to automate the processing of hand and machine-written documents, receipts and other text, as well as classify document types and harvest information. Other use cases include image and voice recognition.

Okay, so this one’s not strictly GenAI… But with its majority stake, Bechtle said it would pair Planet AI’s use-case-oriented AI research with its “extensive marketing capabilities”.

Despite its focus on R&D, Planet AI brought in a revenue of €3.1m in the past fiscal year, Bechtle noted.
