Advania has announced its second AI-infused acquisition inside two months as it strives to become “the UK and Northern Europe’s most AI-focused MSP”.

Having gobbled AI consultancy The AI Framework in July, Advania has now snapped up HPC and AI infrastructure platform Gompute from Nordic datacentre services firm atNorth.

Advania CEO Hege Störe had previously declared ambitions to build a “true AI-focused IT services company”.

Gompute is designed to boost this vision by enabling Goldman Sachs-backed Advania to give its clients the “technical backbone to adopt AI at scale”.

It’s not the only large VAR/MSP retooling for the AI era, with $9bn-revenue, US-headquartered Insight’s CEO recently outlining plans to become an “AI-first solutions integrator”.

Gompute pursuit

Advania expects its acquisition of Gompute, which is pending regulatory approval, to close in Q3.

Gompute aims to deliver a complete, full-stack solution for demanding HPC and AI workloads through private cloud services and scalable computing clusters.

It serves enterprise clients in sectors including financial services, automotive, and computer-aided engineering.

Although The AI Factory and Gompute are both based in its native Sweden, Advania is looking to roll out their services group-wide.

This includes in the UK, where Advania has swiftly built a £450m-revenue UK business via its acquisitions of Content+Cloud, Servium and CCS Media.

“As AI adoption accelerates across industries, organisations need infrastructure that meets both performance and regulatory demands,” Henrik Foyn-Laukvik, Head of M&A at Advania, said in a canned statement.

“With Gompute, we can deliver those capabilities in-region, on-demand and under full client control, ensuring regulatory compliance without compromising performance. We are committed to growing Gompute’s role as a trusted HPC platform while expanding its AI potential.”

“Driven by continued growing demand for atNorth’s services, we are sharpening our focus on high-density colocation and build-to-suit data centers,” added Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth.

“Gompute has played a key role in our HPC journey, and its evolution with Advania marks an exciting next chapter. Advania’s AI-ready sovereign cloud vision aligns seamlessly with the platform, and hosting it in our high-density data centers will enhance our strategic partnership and deliver a powerful solution for the market’s evolving needs.”
