SBTi status: Near-term target originally approved in 2018
Atea was a very early mover on SBTi, having had its near-term target of slashing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 43% by 2030 (from a 2015 base year) approved way back in 2018.
SBTi has shifted the goalposts since then, however, and the Nordic IT infrastructure powerhouse is in the process of updating that near-term target to be in line with limiting warming below 1.5% (rather than 2%).
According to its recent 2022 Sustainability Report, it aims to do this (and develop a net zero target) at some point this year and hopes to give an update soon, Chief Sustainability Officer Andreas Antonsen (pictured above) told IT Channel Oxygen.
Atea, which turned over SEK 46.7bn (£3.5bn) last year, claims it has reduced scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46.1% since 2019, and scope 3 emissions by 3.5% on the same basis.
Estimated Co2e footprint (2022): Scope 1 and 2 combined: 5,842 tonnes, Scope 3: 884,375 tonnes
EcoVadis progress
Atea has bagged a Platinum rating from EcoVadis for three years running, according to its recently published 2022 Sustainability Report. This puts it in the top 1% of over 100,000 companies assessed.
