Giacom claims it has “solidified” its leadership in the UK Microsoft licensing space after snapping up fellow cloud marketplace intY from its US parent.
NASDAQ-listed distributor ScanSource acquired Bristol-based intY in 2019, branding its CASCADE cloud platform “the next piece in our continuing digital strategy”.
Its decision to offload intY to one of its key UK peers mean ScanSource no longer has representation in the UK (it sold its UK comms business in 2020).
Giacom said the move will strengthen its position as “the largest and most technically proficient provider of Microsoft licensing to the SMB-focused channel”.
Notching up revenues of £51.3m in its fiscal 2022, intY ranked 24th in IT Channel Oxygen’s recent UK distribution rundown.
Giacom placed ninth, with revenues of £360m (£120m of which came from cloud).
The cloud distribution market has seen considerable action in recent years, with US cloud marketplace Pax8 building a 400-employee UK/EMEA business since touching down in 2020.
Giacom was itself acquired in 2020 by Digital Wholesale Solutions (before the wider company took the Giacom name this summer).
Giacom said the acquisition – which includes IntY’s UK revenues, 1,500 partners and business operations – not only solidifies its “leadership” in Microsoft licensing, but “also presents an exciting cross-sell opportunity”.
“The integration of intY’s expertise and capabilities will strengthen our ability to support partners in this critical growth sector of the market, while further establishing Giacom as the go-to provider for Microsoft cloud services to the SMB-focused UK channel,” Giacom CEO Terry O’Brien said in a prepared statement.
Marcus Ollenbuttel, SVP, Digital Distribution, Europe, intY, characterised “Giacom as “a business that intY has long admired as a best-of-breed UK-focused peer that shares our commitment to working exclusively through the channel”.
“We’re excited to become part of the Giacom team. We look forward to a seamless integration process, and to the transformative impact this acquisition will have on our ability to not only support our partners but to add increasing value to them moving forwards,” he added.
