2. Vohkus

SCC HQ

Acquirer: SCC

When: March

Deal size: Undisclosed, but Vohkus turned over a cool £92.2m in its fiscal 2022.

How it started:

£2.5bn-revenue giant SCC grabbed Hampshire-based reseller Vohkus in March in what it billed as a classic scale play.

It was the Birmingham powerhouse’s first deal since it committed £300m to acquisitions in the UK, France and Spain last November amid efforts to sustain its “multi-generational vision”.

The deal was also SCC’s third sizeable UK reseller acquisition inside 13 months: it bought audio-visual specialist Visavvi and Civica’s licensing business in February and May 2022, respectively.

What happened next:

Although SCC remained on the M&A trail in 2023, its strategy shifted gears in September when it acquired 150-person digital consultancy Nimble.

Off the back of the deal, SCC plans to build a 2,000-person European digital consultancy within the decade.

Nimble will boost SCC’s presence at the “sharp end” of engagements by adding consulting and advisory skills to SCC’s product resale and managed services capabilities, SCC Corporate Development Director Christine Olmsted said.

“We’re not trying to move away from our heritage in reselling. Vohkus is an example of the fact that we’re trying to scale that part of our business,” Olmsted told IT Channel Oxygen at the time.

“But we know based on customer demand that we can and should be doing more to help our clients transform, and that’s what this acquisition is about.”
