Computacenter
SBTi status: Targets approved in July 2023
Having committed to SBTi in March 2021, the largest UK-headquartered IT solutions provider had its targets approved by the body in July.
In the near-term (ie by 2032), Computacenter is committed to slashing its absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 82.1% (from a 2019 base year), and Scope 3 emissions by 50.4% (2021 base year).
The LSE-listed giant, which generated gross invoiced income of over £9bn last year, aims to reach net zero by 2040. This would entail it slashing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90%.
Computacenter claims 78% of its group electricity is from renewable sources (thanks mainly to solar systems installed in the last three years on the roofs of its Hatfield, Kerpen and California offices, which generated 1.7 million, 1.1 million and 0.25 million kWh of electricity in 2022, respectively).
Estimated Co2e footprint (2022): Scope 1 and 2 combined: 4,416 tonnes (see here for more).
EcoVadis progress
Computacenter uses EcoVadis to inform its key sustainability initiatives. It has achieved both Silver and Gold status in its operating countries with the sustainability framework.
What they said
“I’m delighted that Computacenter is amongst the first group of companies to receive SBTI approval for its net-zero targets. This milestone follows Computacenter’s achievement of becoming carbon neutral for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions in 2022, and further demonstrates that Computacenter has taken important steps in developing and delivering its net-zero strategy,” – Mo Siddiqi, Group Development Director at Computacenter.
Distinctive detail
In 2021, Computacenter, introduced an internal levy on business travel. Any flights or hotels stays are charged at £10 (see p4 of its 2022 Carbon Reduction Plan, here).
