The Oxygen Awards went live last week.
Here we catch up with Hayley Roberts, CEO of Gold sponsor Distology, to find out why they are backing the event.
Why is Disology backing the Oxygen Awards?
Backing any awards is a really good thing to do, because I think we need to really start to encourage and keep pushing higher standards in our industry. Awards recognise exceptional behaviour and drive the right behaviour.
And I think we need a bit of a shake up of some new awards, especially backing all of the good work that IT Channel Oxygen are doing.
Why are you sponsoring the Out of Industry Rising Star category?
The out of industry category is really important to us personally. At Distology, we love taking on people who haven’t had any channel experience or tech experience.
Bringing somebody in from outside or with different skills sets, with transferable skills, and showing they can grow and develop is a really good case in point to show you don’t have to be technical, you don’t have to have had lots of experience in this industry, but you can make it just by focusing on your own core skills.
To celebrate that is really important. That’s why we’re backing that category.
What is Distology’s USP?
Distology’s USP is that we just love what we do. That sounds really trite, but it’s true.
We’re really passionate about exceptional service, as much as anything else, and value. And we’re always asking ourselves, ‘how much better can we get? What more can we do’ – not just to gain more money and grow the business from a financial point of view, but actually to make a difference. And I think that really resonates with all the people you speak to within Distology now.
What’s one thing you got planned for the rest of the year?
There are lot of things going on, so watch this space. We are looking to grow, to develop, to take on new vendors, to grow the vendors we have, to get more involved in some great events – we’re doing Infosec this year, which is fantastic.
What’s the recipe for success in the UK IT channel this year?
Love what you do, and do the best you can every single day. I think you’ve got to really care about what you do. This is a fantastic industry. We have a supply chain for software, for good software, for good technology, that is growing and developing and making our world a lot better, so care about the bigger impact and really do the small stuff well.
