7. DSOR ready to roar

When? All year

As highlighted on p1 of this feature, AWS Marketplace is now being touted as a top-five global IT distributor in the making.

But, somewhat paradoxically, the platform also represents a potentially juicy new route to market for distributors themselves.

AWS Marketplace moved to embrace distribution last year via the launch of its Designated Seller of Record (DSOR) programme.

Talking to IT Channel Oxygen in February, Adam Davison, Senior Director AWS EMEA at Westcon-Comstor, said he believes distribution will play a “significant role” in AWS Marketplace.

“Eight distributors went live with DSOR during the course of last year. We’ve built the largest portfolio out of all those distributors, to my knowledge,” Davison said.

“I believe distribution will play a significant role [in marketplace].”

Talking to IT Channel Oxygen in July, TD Synnex CEO Patrick Zammit similarly said he sees hyperscaler marketplaces as a new “go-to-market” rather than disintermediation threat.

“It’s an opportunity for us to grow and even win business which we may have not won in the past,” he said.

“What I appreciate about DSOR is that AWS is providing an environment where, when an end user decides at the end to buy from the platform, the channel – the partner and the distributor – is still is rewarded.”
