Two Oxygen Influencers have opened up on their career high points, with one branding their recent HPE Channel Reality Show victory “probably the hardest thing I’ve done in my entire life”.
In episode 1 and 2 of this special podcast, Telefonica Tech UK’s Tiffany Nelson and Distology’s Daniel Evans reflected on their career journeys and how they think the IT channel can attract more younger talent, respectively (see here and here).
They were among the 50 individuals nominated by peers and selected for our Oxygen Influencers project, which was created in association with Nebula Global Services.
In the final episode, Nelson characterised the HPE Channel Reality Show as “the best thing I’ve ever done”, despite admitting she “couldn’t eat or sleep” during filming (see full video, bottom, and highlights, below).
“It was four days and four nights, staying over, miked up, 9am till 6pm every day, and two different tasks in front of judges,” she said.
“Life’s about putting yourself outside of your comfort zone,” Nelson said, adding that appearing on the show has been “amazing” for her internal profile.
Evans opened up on his extra-curricular work as the youngest committee member of the Channel Community, where his role is to “matchmake” experienced mentors with mentees in need of regular advice.
“I was in their shoes,” he said.
“One of the challenges has been actually getting lots of mentees to come on board and seek the advice. I think there’s been a stigma, saying, ‘I’m too junior for mentorship’ – it’s been quite challenging to break those barriers down.
“Alternatively, the high was probably the Manchester event that we ran recently, because I’d say a good 60% of attendees to that were mentees looking for a mentor.
“I’m starting to see that shift now of new people coming through.”
