7. Downtime doom

Oops, we crashed half the world’s internet – soz!

This apology could have been attributed to any number of tech giants in 2025 as channel partners were left picking up the pieces following a spate of global outages.

The reliance of UK businesses on global hyperscalers was called into question following major outages at AWS and Microsoft Azure in October.

Rubbing salt in the wound, internet security outfit CloudFlare in November floored vast swathes of the internet (including the Good Ship IT Channel Oxygen itself) as it experienced a “significant outage”.

Stewart Laing, CEO at colocation data centre provider Asanti Data Centres was among those to quickly stick the boot in.

“Today’s Cloudflare outage is another reminder that too much of the UK’s digital infrastructure still depends on a handful of global platforms,” he said.
